Rare Ficks Reed MCM 1950s Far Horizons Bamboo Etagere Shelving Unit

Designed by John Wisner for Ficks Reed and introduced in 1954, the etagere is from the Far Horizons Collection. Featuring a sturdy bamboo frame, the shelving unit has wood/rattan woven shelves and a wood storage unit (painted black) that can be removed (see white spot which can be touched up). There is a bit of settling in the center of the unit, hard to see. It is good condition except for a few signs of wear commensurate with age and use. This piece of furniture is timeless and exceptional with many years of use available to the new owner. About Ficks Reed Furniture. In 1885 Louis Ficks founded the National Carriage and Reed Company in New York and was known for it’s wicker baby carriages. At the turn of the century the company relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio and was renamed Ficks Reed. They began to make furniture using wicker, rattan and bamboo. Over the next few decades an increased interest in the growing popularity of Eastern imports and the Japanese influence of Frank Lloyd Wright’s modern architecture lead the company to associate themselves with prominent designers including Paul Laszlo, Dorothy Draper and John Wisner. Stylish Ficks Reed Extra Wide Chaise Lounge – 1980s. A very stylish chaise lounge by the Ficks Reed Company. I was an employee of the Ficks Reed Company for many years during its existence as well as when this collection was introduced. This oversized chaise lounge was a very popular design of the Ficks Reed Company. The dimensions of this item are 42″ W (at arms) x 72″ Long x 32 H. The seat width is 37″ and the seat depth is 48″. The frame color is gray and is in solid condiiton – has leather bindings. The upholstery is in the original fabric and has been in my home (smoke-free) for many years. While the fabric is still in decent condition, it could use a professional cleaning. There are some nicks but nothing severe – finish is in good shape. The “seat frame” that supports the seat cushion is also upholstered in the same fabric. The presence of this chaise lounge in a room adds a very stylish and elegant look. Thanks for your interest! Vintage Ficks Reed 5 Piece Rattan Sectional Sofa. With all sections together it is, 9′ 6″ long, 33″ deep, 28″ high, and each section is 22″ wide. Set shows wear to rattan finnish, mostly on wrapping and the back of set. Fabric cushions are very good, with 1 cushion that has a small hole on underside. We consider the set to be Very Good Original Condition. Seat straps have been removed and replaced with plywood. Straps can be replaced, but set is very comfortable as is.
