Antique duncan phyfe couch. The beautiful antique piece is sturdily constructed! At some point it has been partially re upholstered with a green/gold damask fabric. New springs and cushioning have been added. The back has a type of broadcloth that has been added, but no upholstery finishing has been done beyond that on the back. The seat is more shallow than modern furniture at only 18 at the dearest point. The back is approximately 16 at the tallest point from the seat. Original Duncan Phyfe Sofa ” European Style with Brass Claw feet ” This vintage sofa measures 77 1/2″ length x 28 1/2″ deep x 341/2 height. This couch has 3 seat cushions each measuring 20 1/2″ x 20 1/2 “. The zippers are in tact and good condition. There are 2 matching detailed arm covers to slip over the rounded arm rests. I couldn’t find MFG labels and tags on this sofa. I learned many of the Original Victorian furniture that was produced during the late 1800′s and early 1900′s did not require a MFG label. The upholstery is a European floral pastel design with tones of blue and green turquoise, blushing pink and a very light creamy beige. There are 4 mahogany saber legs ending each with fine artistry brass claw feet. The framework also mahogany wood has hand carved Grecian symbols of acanthus leaves and scrolls. Duncan Phyfe came to America in 1784 from Scotland. He acquired his style from European fashions such as neoclassical. This couch gives you the perfect firmness and comfort to relax nicely! This was reupholstered in between the 60s and 70s. The springs popped through the bottom one one side so that will need to be repaired. A few stains on the cushion covers can be cleaned and a stain on the arm rest. The bed of the couch looks brand new under the cushions and very little use and ware on both items.
