Very good to excellent condition- freshly laundered though there are a few light signs of use. Can definitely be used as is. Frame is completely rattan and in excellent condition. Chinese Oriental couch c. Hardwood frame with a decorative pierced backrest and arms over a solid seat as traditionally found on Chinese furniture. Loose seat cushion covered in a silver grey velvet chenille. Carved with dragons heads on the backrest (also repeated on the rear), a frieze on the shaped apron below the seat and note also the front feet carved as stylized human heads. Carved Wood Chinoiserie Sofa Beautiful Chinese inspired seating is the perfect accent. Gorgeous carved hardwood frame has Asian detailing. Quality crafted sofa is sturdy and elegant with 5 legs. The upholstery is a velvet that changes from burgundy to chocolate brown in different light. Floral bouquet print looks like palm trees to us Southerners. Comfortable and clean bench cushion is removable. Wood frame is sturdy, all joints tight. Upholstery is very nice, with one or two small sunspots on cushions and light fading. We are pleased to be offering today this Chinese Chippendale camel back sofa that dates from the 1950s era I believe. It came out of a local estate. The fabric is usable in a dark plum color but could probably use a shampoo. It has a foam cushion seat for comfort. I cant tell if the fabric is old or if it is supposed to have this sheen to it. It almost looks faded at certain angles, but fine at others. It has the Chinese carved Chippendale legs and cross stretcher on the base. It has the typical rolled arms with the brass beading. The overall size is 84 inches wide, 26 inches deep on the seat, 38 inches high to the sofa back, 28 inches high on the arms and 21 inches high to the seat. 17732 Chinese Chippendale Camel Back Sofa. Item features a number of very fine and detailed carvings including, birds, serpents, swan heads, cornucopia, pagodas and other flowers and foliage. In the late 18th century Oriental motifs were very popular, the front legs of this Chippendale style sofa reflect that popularity. Featuring hand carved Chinese fretwork designs on the mahogany legs and mahogany stretchers running between the legs, flowing lines in back and arms of the upper sofa. Copied from an English Chippendale George III sofa c. 1770 found in the Colonial Williamsburg collection. Sofa has squirted Florial fabric. Condition Report: Good condition with some scuffs, chips and scratches as expected with usage. Fabric has some wear and stains, but usable. Measurements: 35.5″ H x 73″ W x 31.5″ D arm height 30″.
