Walnut Victorian 4 Piece Parlor Set Sofa & 3 Chairs Attributed to John Jelliff

Walnut Victorian 4 Piece Parlor Set Sofa & 3 Chairs Attributed to John Jelliff. The set consists of four pieces a sofa, arm chair and 2 side chairs. All four pieces have the caryatids(women’s head) medallions on a crest at the top of the back section of a pieces. The sofa and arm chair feature the Atlantes(male warrior heads) on the arm supports. All four pieces are in great condition, look to have been restored many years ago. The set is very sturdy with no major damage. The last 3 pictures show a sample of the staining on the the seats of the 2 side chairs, the center carving on the sofa has a small piece missing, and a close up of a support brace on the back side of the sofa. Arm chair dimensions are approximately 29″ wide to the outside of the arms, 43″ tall at the center of the back and 24 deep for the seating area. 2 side chairs are approximately 21″ wide across the seat, 40″ tall at the center of the back and 20 deep for the seating area. The John Jelliff workshop was located in Newark, NJ from 1836 to 1860. Lease view all of the pictures as they are part of the description.

Offered for sale is a Victorian parlor set attrib. Made of walnut with burl highlights this is an outstanding set. The sofa crest features Herons with their beaks stuck through swirling ribbon eating berries, these are amazing carvings. A cameo back center is flanked by chair back ends. Incised carvings decorate the shaped seat rail. The matching chairs offer vining carved leaves centered by an ebony inlaid crest. This set is solid and sturdy, with expected wear and dings for its age. The springs in the sofa need to be retied. Offered for sale is a Walnut Victorian Eastlake lounge circa 1875. This is a wonderful lounge solid sturdy and ready to be placed in any home. Made of solid walnut, there are accents of burl walnut and incised carvings. The fabric is outstanding with no apologies I see. The only two “issues” I find, a brace is in the back where there has been a repair and the little knob on the top of the lounge has been replaced. Made of solid walnut with burl walnut accents, these are lovely pieces. This is no a true set, as they do not match, they are covered in the same fabric and were used in the same room. There has been some repair to the sofa(please look at all photos closely). All pieces are solid, sturdy and ready to use. The fabric is very nice, there are two spots on the fabric(last photo).
