Crafted in England c1980. This exquisite red leather Chesterfield sofa was crafted in England around the year 1980. Today, the cushions remain deep and plush, while the quality cowhide leather remains as sturdy and as beautiful as ever. The leather Chesterfield sofa has remained a popular staple in antique furniture for several centuries. The first of its kind is believed to have been commissioned by the Earl of Chesterfield. After that, this beautiful English sofa became very popular with collectors and has remained so ever since. The true, high-quality Chesterfield is a classic element in offices, living rooms, and cigar rooms, prized for its rich cowhide leather. This piece is certainly an example of this, with deep, plush cushions, buttoned leather armrests and backrest, brass brads, and mahogany bun feet. Because this is also a vintage sofa, its classically distressed appearance is especially charming and would make an especially lovely addition to any English furniture collection. Few red leather Chesterfield sofas compare in quality to this one, which remains in good overall condition. Structurally, it is very sturdy, with a strong solid wood frame and sturdy cushions that provide support and comfort in equal measure. The seat cushions are removable for easy cleaning as well, which has helped keep this sofa very clean and neat. The cushions were recently re-stuffed in England to provide maximum comfort and support. The leather on the back rest, seat cushion fronts, and arm rests has developed some crackling with age. This occurs when the leather begins to dry out. We have conditioned the leather and as long as it is conditioned with normal leather conditioner a few times a year, it will not get worse. Luckily, the crackling adds a beautiful charm and sense of character to this Chesterfield and does not detract from it. The seating area measures 70 wide x 25 deep and is 18.5 from the floor.
