1960′s Restored De Sede Modular Ds Br Brown Leather Corner Sofa Armchair Suite

A very rare and collectable set, this was designed in the 1960s, its upholstered in brown leather which has been fully restored to include being washed back and hand dyed from the ground up this lovely deep cigar brown colour. The suite is modular and designed to fit around you, you can have a small corner sofa and two armchairs, a three seat and two seat sofa, a traditional three piece suite and so on, the list in endles. Each piece is designed to be super light weight, the frame is some kind of heated fiberglass and it is exceptionally comfortable. Width:- 385cm with all pieces in a line. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses SW19-3BE, we can have it delivered nationwide to include Scotland Wales and Ireland. Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a vintage modular sofa / couch / bench designed by Martin Borenstein for California based company, Brown Saltman. Circa’50s /’60s. Has super clean lines. The three upright backrest supports, as well as the two armrests, can be easily be removed to form a bench configuration. The armrests are each held onto the frame with two pins, and the backrests are designed to fit snugly over the back of the seat frame. The seat cushions are an orangish color, and the upholstery zips off for easy cleaning. Measurements: The seat back height is approx. The width of the sofa, measured from armrest to armrest, is 75.5 across, with the interior seat width being approx. The seat height, measured from the ground to the top of the cushions, is approx. 16 high, and the seat depth is approx. The armrest height is approx. Condition: Overall, the unit is in very good condition for its age. There are some light scuff marks on the wood in places, but nothing drastic. We did not attempt to clean or polish the unit in any way. It appears to be structurally solid. One of the armrests looks like it had a careful repair done on it (see photo) at one point in time – barely noticeable, but there. We can provide additional photos, if requested. The straps underneath the cushions are all intact. The cushions themselves are still nice and firm. The upholstery on the cushions is in nice condition given their age – there are a few small blemishes here and there, but nothing overly objectionable, in our opinion. They can be unzipped and cleaned / dry cleaned quite easily – we’ll leave that up to the winning purchaser to handle, if desired. It comes from a pet-free, smoke-free home, and will make a handsome addition to any mid century modern interior. We will be more than happy to coordinate the process. DIMENSIONS:H 29.53 in. X W 185.04 in. X D 110.24 in. H 75 cm x W 470 cm x D 280 cm. SEAT HEIGHT:15.75 in. The model can be converted into a guest bed or daybed in just a few simple steps, without any mechanical assistance. The sofa was made with the best quality leather and finished by hand with high levels of craftsmanship and eye for detail. The brown leather has gotten a wonderful patina and looks amazing. The corner element shows some traces of age cracks (See close up) but still in very firm strong condition. The sofa consists of 7 modules that can be arranged as you desire in a matter of minutes you can create two 2-seat sofas and a single lounge chair or a large straight 5-person sofa, any combination is possible. Each sofa element can be converted into a guest bed or daybed and back to sofa in a matter of seconds a very high quality piece of Swiss design that is most comfortable and most practical. Recently refurbished, including two seat cushions have had the top leather matched and replaced. (repair not done by De Sede) everything else is original. There are scratches and scrapes consistant with age and use. Several house holds within two families with kids and Pets…. Items of similar condition and model are available in Europe only at double my asking price. Will gladly send more images of wear as needed. And no reasonable offer will be refused. This is a very special item that has been much loved. The seating is too low for our aging family.
