Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a vintage modular sofa / couch / bench designed by Martin Borenstein for California based company, Brown Saltman. Circa’50s /’60s. Has super clean lines. The three upright backrest supports, as well as the two armrests, can be easily be removed to form a bench configuration. The armrests are each held onto the frame with two pins, and the backrests are designed to fit snugly over the back of the seat frame. The seat cushions are an orangish color, and the upholstery zips off for easy cleaning. Measurements: The seat back height is approx. The width of the sofa, measured from armrest to armrest, is 75.5 across, with the interior seat width being approx. The seat height, measured from the ground to the top of the cushions, is approx. 16 high, and the seat depth is approx. The armrest height is approx. Condition: Overall, the unit is in very good condition for its age. There are some light scuff marks on the wood in places, but nothing drastic. We did not attempt to clean or polish the unit in any way. It appears to be structurally solid. One of the armrests looks like it had a careful repair done on it (see photo) at one point in time – barely noticeable, but there. We can provide additional photos, if requested. The straps underneath the cushions are all intact. The cushions themselves are still nice and firm. The upholstery on the cushions is in nice condition given their age – there are a few small blemishes here and there, but nothing overly objectionable, in our opinion. They can be unzipped and cleaned / dry cleaned quite easily – we’ll leave that up to the winning purchaser to handle, if desired. It comes from a pet-free, smoke-free home, and will make a handsome addition to any mid century modern interior. We will be more than happy to coordinate the process.
