Elaborately carved high back, retaining the original tapestry upholstered panels, flanked by extensive foliate carvings, topped with carvings of eagles on the pediments. The back is secured with barley twist back supports, which terminate in floral cartouches below turned finials and upholstered arms, which are also raised on barley twist supports. Below, the couch features a firm sprung seat base. The sprung seat also retains the original tapestry upholstery, finished with brass studwork. The couch is raised on turned legs, interspersed with floral cartouches, united by barley twist stretchers for added stability. The settle couch features a dark oak colour, synonymous with Black Forest furniture. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
