Professionally appraised by Richard Saunders of Saunders Appraisals. Almost excellent condition (see photo of one corner trim on one end of sofa, other photo of vinyl wear on one section under cushions). Sofa recovered in 1987 in floral material. Cushions replaced with new foam. Rarely used/sat on sofa. Extremely rare vintage American wicker sofa / fold-out bed sometimes referred to as a Lomodi. Three upholstered seat and back cushions. Full-length inner-spring fold-out metal bed frame with mattress. Closely woven round fibre wickerwork on upper back, arms and skirting. Four hand-woven “Diamond” designs in upper backrest. Round fibre with metal wire core in latticework design in mid-back, under armrests and skirting. Criss-cross latticework and diamond design woven into the back is a hallmark design element of the Art Deco style. Six legs include three at front with wrapped ball feet. Rare and uncommon design from the 1920′s. Appraiser/Restorer said in his whole career he has seen a total of 4 Lomodis and believes if was most likely manufactured by Ypsilanti Reed Furniture Company of Ionia, Michigan. Measurements are 35″ high x 83″ wide x 27 deep. Mattress frame is 71″ x 46 1/2″. Throw pillows not included.
