FRENCH LOUIS XV STYLE CARVED FRUITWOOD CANAPE. Circa late 19th century; of attractive diminutive proportions Item # 803ERI07. We love this gorgeous little antique French canapĂ© sofa with its slight proportions and relentless curvatures. It moves beyond the typical carvings of the era and introduces nearly unique carved motifs in the feet, transforming the typically scrolled sabot into a sheaf of draped acanthus at the terminal of the cabriole leg. The apron and crest are incredibly active with vivid displays of flowers gathered in outward flowing bouquets with smaller displays carved into the split in reeding over each front leg – and each of these is a unique collection of flowers, differing from one leg to the next. The antique canapĂ© sofa is upholstered in a yellow silk damask, probably a decade old though still remaining serviceable with only minor blemish and stain. The loose cushion is a deep stuffed down and results in a great deal of support and comfort. It is large enough to comfortably fit two people in a parlor or living room setting, though it is small enough to actually be a very fine accent in the bedroom. The joinery is all pinned tenon-mortise in the solid fruitwood frame. It is a stunning piece that will certainly be a cherished part of your interior. 47 1/2 W x 26 D x 37 3/4 H, 17 H to seat. Condition Report: Fabric with some loose threads, a few minor stains and some light soiling. Sturdy joints, light surface scuffs and wear as expected. Please scroll down and view all images of this piece for a full overview of condition. Is a family business founded by Andrew and Grace Silla in 2009 after years of collecting.
