Antique Austrian Vienna Secessionist Bentwood Settee by JJ Kohn

A Beech Bentwood Vienna Secessionist Settee Bench by JJ Kohn, Austria, c. This Settee would look exceptional while displayed in an array of interior styles. The Vienna Secessionist style is often refereed to as Austria’s Art Nouveau Movement. The ground breaking style was well-accompanied by JJ Kohn’s Bentwood process, it paired nicely with its aesthetic. The solid beechwood is bent throughout, displaying sculpted “vine like” accents. The curled arm rests adds a great look from all angles. The upholstery isn’t original but rather true to its era, the backrest originally showed natural cane. The textile used contrasts nicely, displaying a traditional floral motif. The underside still includes the original JJ Kohn Austria paper label. Condition: This Settee was exceptionally well made. Surface scratches, minor chips and repairs are shown to a minimum from age, it’s in overall good condition. READ ABOUT OUR GALLERY. AUSTRIAN BIEDERMEIER FRUITWOOD PARCEL EBONIZED SETTEE. Circa early 19th century Item # 803CIV07. A fine 19th century Biedermeier period settee with pierced splat arms and early black upholstery. It is crafted out of solid fruitwood with a chaotic veneering along the crest rail and parcel ebonized highlights that meld beautifully against the dark covering. The piece is raised over tapered legs with tenon-mortised joints, the rolled bolster pillows perfectly complimenting the outward splat of the arms. 54 1/2 W x 23 3/4 D x 35 3/4 H, 17 1/2 H to seat. Condition Report: Old breaks to pierced splat in proper left arm, these repaired but remain fragile. Surface wear and distressing; a few chip losses and veneer losses here and there. Old upholstery remaining in very good overall condition. Comfortable and sturdy (other than the splat, which should be shown care).
