Simply imagine this sofa with new upholstery and the possibilites explode, thanks to the incredible quality and craftsmanship of this Biedermeier sofa. Enhanced with flame birch veneers that make the wood come alive, this Swedish sofa features fine inlay, arms exceptionally carved creating a ram’s head cornucopia, and removeable baluster pillow cushion which “fills in” the arms. The durable green fabric is in good condition, but you can easily replace it with another that is more suitable to your decor. A period Empire rosewood daybed with beautiful carved details. It was adapted into a functional sofa with a closely matched carved back rail, with the option of using it or not. It retains it’s original highly polished finish. The drop in seat and back cushions are covered in tapestry fabric in good condition. The back cushion folds out to fit on top of the seat to create a thick, comfortable bed. It measures 79 inches wide, 33 1/2 inches deep and 33 1/2 inches high. With the optional back rail installed, the height of the center crest is 42 1/2 inches. The entire piece is easily dismantled for transport. Beautifully carved and gilded, this striking Belle époque settee is crafted in the typical manner of the Louis XVI taste during the fourth quarter of the 19th century. Tight infinite swirls and motifs of acanthus and foliage are tastefully developed in the moldings and surfaces throughout under a vibrant early gilding. The legs are particularly attractive with the spiral turned-fluting along the tapered leg, each of these situated below a generous relief-carved swirling rosette. There is a certain imaginative quality to the embellishments of the surface throughout, first in the truly exquisite scrolled and anthemion decorated crest focal point but further in the small details added throughout the frame. A hand-woven and needlepoint Aubusson covering, perhaps original or at least quite early, remains in fair condition on the back and seat. For anyone with a passion for the French taste, it is a stunning piece that shows the treatments of a well developed carver’s hand. 45 3/4″ H x 56 1/4″ W x 21 1/4″ D x 16″ H to seat. Sofa retaining the original upholstery c. Shaped and sprung backrest, covered and padded arms on turned supports over a deep sprung seat. Extravagantly upholstered in a deep red velvet damask with Art Nouveau design of stylized flower and leaf forms. With a long tassel braid below the seat and a shorter version of the same to the arm pads. Further decorative cord to the backrest and also laid in a trellis pattern around the front and sides of the seat. Raised on turned front legs with small brass castors. Very good condition with only minor wear to the covers. The rear of the couch has been relined in black. Dimensions: width 57, depth 30, height 38½. For your consideration, a gorgeous antique hand carved Louis XVI settee with the original wool aubusson tapestry fabric, circa mid to late 19th century French. The wood frame assume walnut? And spring seat are in excellent condition, very sturdy with no wobbling. Obvious wear and wool loss to upholstery noted in photos as well as fraying to the silk backing. This is an original antique Victorian era solid wood oak? Bench with spoon carved flower patterns on both sides and the original red velvet upholstery on top, padded with the original straw. The decorative trim around the edges of the upholstery is not original. The upholstery is not soft velvet but is a little more prickly like mohair. The entire piece is in excellent condition and is sturdy, solid, and fully functional. The seat is hinged and there is a compartment underneath. There is a small crack on the edge of one wood panel where a nail split the wood, but the nail is not exposed and nothing is loose. The tip of another nail is exposed along the bottom edge of the compartment, shown in the photos. The wood otherwise looks excellent with very little wear on any of the surfaces and the finish is nearly flawless. The velvet upholstery is a little worn in spots but there are no holes anywhere.
