FRENCH LOUIS XV STYLE THREE PIECE PARLOR SUITE OF SETTEE AND TWO FAUTEUILS. First Half of the 20th Century Item # G13KPR08. A lovely three piece parlor suite piece that exhibits all typical elements of the Louis XV style, the settee and pair of arm chairs have a certain angularity and surface modernity clearly influenced by the Art Deco tastes. The frames are painted in a tarnished silver, this delightfully worn away in higher traffic surfaces. Each crest is carved of the solid with several roses that flow outward into the molded frame with foliage, flanked only by pyramid finials draped in acanthus leafage at each corner. The arms curve out around the round seat and finish in handholds carved with scaled embellishments along the grip and down the arm support. The front legs have robust acanthus leafage flowing from the knee along the frame as they join the seat, each foot terminating in scrolled toes in the Louis XV manner. This parlor suite would look gorgeous if reupholstered in a plain white linen or similarly neutral fabric, allowing the frame to be the forefront of the design with a more reserved covering. 60″ wide [arm to arm], 38 7/8″ high [crest], 17″ high [floor to seat], approximately 30″ total depth, seat depth being 24 1/2. Condition Report: Chip where the left arm of settee meets the frame. Surface wear throughout as expected in a vintage set. Some paint discoloration (one chair with some discolored varnish to surface). Upholstery in poor condition, seats somewhat lumpy. Joint separations, all three remaining sturdy and strong.
