Our Stock # 18.8650. This is a large vintage 3 seat sofa. A Brazilian, leather and Imbuia lounge settee designed by Jean Gillon for Probel, dating to the mid 20th century, circa 1970. Exceptional mid-20th century lounge sofa, graced with designer appeal and superb quality. Displaying a desirable aged patina and in very good order throughout. Soft, fine grain leather exudes quality, with minimal ageing and a tasteful, deep chestnut colour. Striking Imbuia wood frame shows fine grain interest and deep caramel hues. Highly distinctive frame with large pegged joints across a generous, wide profile. At 6′ wide from padded arm to arm, each of the three cushions offers a spacious, relaxing seat. Deeply buttoned with double stitched cushions, the low-back, long-thigh form offers desirable comfort. Fascinating natural hides suspended from front to rear provide support for the leather cushions. The saddle cushioned arms are generously wide and intersect the frame with a demi-lune flourish. Unusual oval legs stand upon stout reverse domed toes, united across the frame with stout rails. Maker’s label for Probel of Sao Paulo, Brazil can be found to one side at the rear. This is a striking and highly distinctive vintage 3-seat sofa, with superb comfort and quality, inviting leather over exotic Imbuia wood stocks. ART DECO WORN AND PATINATED LEATHER SOFA, CONVERTIBLE INTO BED. France, circa 1930s; all original leather and hardware Item # 206JXP29P. Retaining all original leather, hardware and fabrics, this untouched 1930s sofa from the Art Deco era is a clever design that hides within its frame a mattress and fold-out mechanism. We have left it in exactly the same state it has been in for the last nearly 100 years, other than some minor maintenance repairs to the interior mechanism completed after the photographs were taken. Incredibly heavy and sturdy, this was built to last the test of time. The leather is a worn cognac color with surface variation and discolorations throughout. A very nice find for the “club” setting. Measurements: 36″ H x 34″ D x 70″ W; 18″ approx. Height to seat; mattress area 72 1/2″ D from front of mattress frame to back of the sofa x 55 1/4″ W inside frame. Condition Report: In as-found condition with original leather and hardware; ticking to the leather in a number of areas [likely from a cat] with significant discoloration throughout; no mattress; requires some upholstery work to have a mattress made, the older worn-out fabrics replaced and the springs tied again (seat is a bit lumpy); sturdy and very strong. An incredibly well-made solid oak Mission loveseat by Stickley from their “Harvey Ellis Collection”, the large doweled tenon-mortised joints are on full display and result in a form that will last lifetimes. It is beautifully inlaid on each of the splats and still retains its original upholstery which overall appears almost to have never been used.
