Antique English Victorian Mahogany Upholstered Chaise Longue Settee Sofa Couch (Circa 1860). Here is a superb quality antique English mid Victorian carved mahogany chaise longue, circa 1860, which has been newly upholstered, and is in excellent condition. Attractive upswept left-hand arm. Traditional horse hair filling. Structured silk & pale gold cotton damask floral upholstery. Sweeping shaped buttoned backrest & arm. Carved shaped back rail and & arm. Original brass & ceramic cup castors. Original polish & patination. Here is a superb quality antique English early Victorian carved mahogany chaise longue, circa 1860, which has been newly upholstered, and is in excellent condition. The chaise features (when facing) a left-hand raised sweeping upholstered deep buttoned arm. The carved & moulded back frame, which is also upholstered with deep buttoning, sweeps down and terminates on the base of the seat. The chaise boasts a scroll shaped arm, which displays foliate carvings at the base and scroll end. The arm and backrest are solid in joint. The chaise has been newly upholstered in top quality pale gold colour structured silk and cotton damask floral upholstery, finished with matching braiding. The stuff over seat has been re-upholstered in the traditional manner with horsehair filing. The seat is therefore heavy, firm and very good quality. The underside of the chaise has been traditionally webbed & upholstered in hessian backing material. The chaise stands on baluster turned legs and retains the original solid brass and ceramic cups and castors. This chaise features a rich dark red brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished. This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the living room or bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. External height = 84.5cm or 33¼ or 2ft 9¼. External width = 186cm or 73¼ or 6ft 1¼ External depth = 66.5cm or 26 or 2ft 2 Seat height = 50cm or 19 or 1ft 7 Seat width = 147cm or 57 or 4ft 9 Seat depth = 52.5cm or 20 or 1ft 8 Arm Height = 72.5cm or 28½ or 2ft 4½ Back Height (from seat) = 42.5cm or 16¾ or 1ft 4¾. The chaise longue frame is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no missing carvings or mouldings to the frame. The chaise has been newly upholstered in top quality cream structured silk and cotton floral upholstery, finished with matching braiding. The stuff over seat has been upholstered in the traditional matter with horsehair filling; it is therefore heavy, firm and very good quality. The underside of the chaise has been traditionally upholstered with webbing & hessian backing material. Therefore, the upholstery is in excellent and clean condition. The chaise stands on its original solid mahogany legs and original brass & ceramic castors. The chaise longue is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
