Antique English Victorian Mahogany & Satinwood Marquetry Inlaid Salon Couch Sofa Settee (Circa 1890). This is a superb quality antique Victorian mahogany & marquetry inlaid couch, circa 1890, which has been newly upholstered, and is in excellent condition. Wood: Mahogany & Satinwood. Stunning bone marquetry & inlaid panels. Satinwood string inlay to frames. Newly upholstered in structured silk brocade material. Cream & pale gold colour upholstery. Original polish and patination. The couch features exquisite elaborate satinwood and bone foliate & urn marquetry inlaid back splats and elegant pierced fretwork. The couch back is also connected to elegant arms on shaped supports. Been newly upholstered in cream, and pale gold colour structured silk brocade material, finished with matching braiding and traditional hessian backing to the underside. The front of the seat frames features a serpentine design, and the frame in general is decorated with satinwood string inlay throughout, including the backs, arms, seat frame and legs. The couch and chairs rest on cabriole legs to the front and splayed legs to the rear; the cabriole legs also display marquetry inlay to the knees. The couch boasts a rich brown mahogany colour to the frames. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to recreate this colour if it has been re-polished. The couch would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the hallway to the living room or bedroom. The couch has been newly upholstered in beautiful pale gold & cream coloured structured silk brocade, and finished with matching braiding. The upholstery and braiding is therefore clean and free of marks, dirt or tears. The seats are firm and are comfortable to sit on. The couch is solid in joint and ready to use.
