EXCEPTIONAL 19TH CENTURY AESTHETIC PERIOD HERTER BROTHERS EBONIZED RECAMIER WITH NEEDLEPOINT & PINK VELVET FABRIC – NYC. Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We’re a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We’ve been hard at work. Important decorative arts and antiques for our discerning clients. With our utmost pride and highest regards we’re pleased to offer for sale this exceptional 19th century ebonized Aesthetic movement Pink velvet & needlepoint recamier / chaise by Herter Brothers NYC. Herter Brothers began as an upholstery firm in NYC in 1864 that later evolved into making furnishings and interior designs. They were very talented cabinet makers who could work in a multitude of the periods popular styles such as Victorian, neo-classical, and renaissance revival styles. We believe their ebonized Aesthetic period or “Anglo-Japanese style” work to be the most synonymous of their talents and style. Works from the talented duo garnered interest from the most important men of the era such as the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, and they even furnished the white house. This recamier is one of the nicest examples we’ve seen in some time. We’ve handled a few very nice Sheraton Mahogany examples in the near past but these are getting harder and harder to find. This recamier employs the best design and is wonderful from crest to foot. The needlepoint arm and back feature pink floral and vine designs on an ivory colored field with a surrounding peach medallion. The neutral light earthen tones mesh wonderfully with the meticulously cared for pink velvet. When we start to examine the carvings and woodwork you start to notice just how much work went into such a piece. The rolled arm is decorated with additional complimentary vine carvings with a floral heavy brass rosette. The horizontal rails feature 3 very unique heavy gauge ormolu acanthus leaf. Each turned leg has 2 absolutely wonderful floral embossed ormolu mounts around the turnings. There’s one missing on the lower portion of the back leg. Furniture jewelry on this caliber is near impossible to match we’re very happy all the others were left untouched and stood the test of time. This came to us from a non smoking home and is 100% clean and ready to go. We note a small wood loss about the size of a nickel along the horizontal rail. We have expert woodworkers on staff and plan to have the small piece fabricated. This is a truly wonderful aesthetic period recamier which. Will go to a great home. The recamier is 69″ long x 28″ wide x 36 tall. Our warehousing facility located at 190 Chestnut St. Convenient downtown location just minutes away from I-91 and I-90 Masspike.
