Originally there was Heywood Brothers established in 1826 and Wakefield Company formed in 1855. Initially both firms were quality producers of Victorian wicker, and later, rattan furniture. By the end of the 19th century, these firms were serious rivals. In 1897 the firms made a logical and profitable merger. They were then known as Heywood Brothers & Wakefield Company. In 1921 the name was changed and simplified to Heywood-Wakefield Company. The company continued to grow and prosper in popularity throughout the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s with their solid wood, Art Deco inspired mid-century modern (MCM) furniture made from 100% American Northern Yellow Birch. The wood was all hand-finished and came in two stain colors: Wheat or Champagne. Heywood-Wakefield is highly valued and extremely collectible today because of its classic MCM clean design and superb quality construction. If taken care of this Heywood-Wakefield furniture could last forever. This particular listing is for a fantastic authentic Heywood-Wakefield Company Mid-Century Modern (MCM) 3-piece sectional sofa. This 3-piece sectional is extremely versatile and can be arranged as one very long sofa 13 ½ feet! , L-shaped, Reverse L-shape, or U-shaped. This sectional sofa easily seats 9 adults. Originally, the sofa was covered in a bright orange and gold heavy-weight nubby fabric. This fabric lasted over 45 years, but eventually succumbed to old-age and was replaced with the current covering of white faux ostrich leather (heavy-weight quality naugahyde). The newer fabric only lasted about half as long as the original vintage fabric and now needs to be replaced with a fabric of your choice. Why dont modern upholstery fabrics go the distance like vintage fabrics? The legs and framing of these 3 pieces are made of solid hardwood, stained and hand-finished in what I believe is the champagne color (see all photos). This sectional sofa is in very good condition, other than needing to be recovered. There are slight scratches to the legs, but no damage to the pieces. The frames are still all original, in good condition with no damage. The dimensions for the three sections are. For the 2 end pieces: 54 Long, 33 High, and 35 Deep The center section is: 48″ Long, 33 inches High, and 35″ Deep. Personally, we have used Craters & Freighters in the past with good results. This item will be listed until April 20th, 2018. If unsold by that time, the listing will go away and the item will be donated.
