Fine Biedermeier Recamier chaise lounge or daybed of German origin and in the Empire style. This is a stunningly beautiful and very rare piece handcrafted in the 19th century from Birchwood. Rounded “S” scrolled head neck and foot rest, scrolled feet, the seat cushion is loose. Seat and inside side panels are upholstered with contrasting welts. This Recamier represents the highest taste of style and is a wonderfully versatile piece. Patina and wear excellent for age. The primary wood is Birchwood with fine decorative ebonized accent applique rosettes. The underside is exposed, with very thick secondary wood, sturdy and strong. The chaise made to be used in the center of a room with a finished front and back making this chaise more desirable. This added feature of the finished back providing multiple choices for placement: such as, a room divider whether you are a modernist or traditionalist. This sculptural very comfortable piece will make any living room, bedroom or library come alive. Provenance: Estate of Yolande Betbeze Fox, Miss America 1951.
