FRENCH LOUIS XVI STYLE CARVED FRUITWOOD DAYBED. Circa late 19th century Item # 704LMT08P. Such an interesting strikepoint piece for the sitting room, this late 19th century settee is crafted in the Louis XVI taste with a distinctly provincial touch. The fruitwood that makes up the frame, presumably cherry, remains finished only in light stains and waxes, allowing the fullness of the crisp wood to show through. The angular form softens somewhat with the outward splay of either end, the straight leg rising into this curvature and highlighted with a floral rosette at the top. The crest rail on either side is reeded with criss-crossed ribbon carved in high-relief at symmetrical intervals. A nice black fabric covers the entire piece quite tastefully, this remaining in overall very good condition with a deep tufted and down-stuffed cushion that leaves the form incredibly comfortable. 71 1/2 W x 25 3/8 D x 27 1/2 H, 18 3/8 H to seat. Condition Report: Old dry surface with expected wear: dings, abrasions, chipping (some wear/chipping to rosettes on arms). Fabric is later and remains in “good” condition with no observed flaws.
