Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian solid mahogany chaise longue, circa 1860, which has been newly upholstered, in excellent condition. The chaise features (when facing) a right-hand raised sweeping deep buttoned upholstered arm, boasting a stunning quality scroll carved fascia. The moulded back frame, which is also upholstered and deep buttoned, features pierced scroll carvings, sweeps down and to the sprung stuff-over seat. The seat frame comprises reeded moulding. The arm and backrest are solid in joint. The chaise has been newly upholstered, to a professional standard, in top quality cream silk damask upholstery, incorporating a floral pattern, finished with matching braiding. The stuff over seat has been professionally sprung and is in excellent condition. The seat is firm but comfortable to sit on; you do not sink into the chaise. The underside of the chaise has been traditionally upholstered in hessian backing material. The chaise stands on its original reeded baluster mahogany legs and boasts the original mug castors, which are all in good condition too. This chaise features a rich dark brown mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished. This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the living room or bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. Antique English Regency Mahogany Upholstered Scroll End Chaise Longue (Circa 1820). This is an exceptional quality antique English Regency mahogany chaise longue, circa 1820, which has been newly upholstered and is in very good condition. Attractive upswept right-hand arm. Structured cream silk chenille upholstery. Cream colours with a duck egg blue spot structure. Sweeping shaped upholstered backrest. Scroll shaped back rail and & foot. Lovely fluted melon carved baluster legs. Original brass cup castors. Original colour & patination. The chaise features (when facing) a right-hand raised sweeping upholstered arm. The back, which is also upholstered, sweeps down into a finely shaped mahogany scroll end. The foot of the chaise encompasses a finely shaped scroll end frame and fine reeeding adorns the frame of the couch. The chaise has been newly upholstered in a top quality silk-based fabric, with a diamond pattern, in coffee and cream colours, finished with a fine duck egg blue spot structure, complete with new matching braiding. This upholstery would have reflected the original style of upholstery used. The chaise features a removable dense swab cushion above a webbed frame, with a ruched and piped bolster cushion. The swab cushion incorporates a zip, just in case the material needed to be removed for cleaning. The seat is firm but comfortable to sit on; you do not sink into the chaise. The chaise stands on its original melon shaped fluted baluster mahogany legs and boasts the original top quality brass castor cups and wheels, which are all in good condition. READ ABOUT OUR GALLERY. FRENCH LOUIS XVI STYLE SCRUBBED PAINT THREE-PIECE DUCHESSE BRISéE. Circa mid-to-late 19th century, in worn brown leather upholstery Item # 911ZST24A. This very distinctive form is coined a “Duchesse Brisée” and is quite difficult to find, particularly one as interesting as the present example. A flexible form that functions in so many different settings, it is intended to be a chaise longue but can be arranged as a “His and Hers” setup in a sitting room or one chair can be conjoined with the ottoman as a lounging chair and the other can be placed elsewhere in the home. Crafted of solid beech, the surface was at one point polychromed in several layers with varying gray hues. These have since been scrubbed and reduced to a distressed and chaotic finish with the warmer ochre hints left intact on the raised elements and cooler saturated gray remnants in the recesses. The structure is locked together with pinned tenon-mortise joinery and the frame is carved in the typical manner with a rope-twist motif around the frame, large floral and foliate carvings in the crest and inset rosettes over the turned, tapered and fluted legs. An old brown leather covering on the set should be changed, this with some tearing, wear and open seams. It remains incredibly comfortable though and could continue to serve for the time being until being recovered. Rarely do we stumble across such a compelling chaise and it is really a treasure. A special piece that absolutely catches your eye and defines the interior. 83 1/2″ total length; larger chair: 37″ H x 26 1/4″ D x 28 5/8″ W, 19 1/2″ H to seat; smaller chair: 29 3/4″ H x 22″ D x 25 3/4″ W, 19 H to seat. Condition Report: Leather is torn and worn with torn gaps at the seams. Old cracks in the frames throughout (including visible hairline crack in crest rail of the larger chair) and heavily distressed/scrubbed painted surface showing much of the underlying beech hardwood frame.
