We are pleased to be offering today this early Victorian carved sofa in Rosewood triple back sofa with laminated medallion back sides on each end having a floral bouquet at the top, and a laminated center section with open carved scrollwork crest in unbelievable condition dating from the 1870′s-1880′s era. Normally this type of sofa is found with damage joints but this example is in unbelievable condition. The original finish is gorgeous with the rosewood grains and the old style Green color velour fabric is in really nice usable condition. We took many pictures so you can see how nice it is!! J & JW Meeks’ Hawkins pattern was so named by Historians based on the fact that Joseph Meeks presented his daughter, Sophia, a parlor set now known as the “HAWKINS PATTERN”, as a wedding gift when she married “Dexter Hawkins”. That set later was passed on to the NYC Metropolitan Museum. Features include a pierced carved crest rail centered by two large decorative flowers and flanked by a cluster of grapes on each side. Recently installed tone on tone Red Damask material fashioned in the Double French Flute design. The whole raised on casters. Presented in Pristine Condition! FINE & RARE ROCOCO VICTORIAN ANTIQUE JOHN HENRY BELTER LAMINATED ROSEWOOD SETTEE_circa 1860′s.. The size: 68″ long by 39″ high by 30 deep. LOSING HERE IS YOUR GAIN! A fine settee attributed to John Henry Belter, NY with several layers (at least 7) of exotic rosewood to make this a special piece of Victorian furniture. The cushion is about 20″ deep and the height from the floor to the cushion is 15″. The springs need to be tighten and the lining has been torn off from underneath as shown. Small repair to one front foot. The patina is good with some surface wear. The fabric is old, but is from the 20th c. And not of the period. We do have a loading dock and ramp for trucks. This fine parlor set consist of a well done Settee, 2 fine Arm Chairs, and three attractive Side Chairs. Features include the nicely executed laminated rosewood, the carved crests of flowers, shells, and scroll carvings, the gadrooned crest rails, the reticulated surrounds, the serpentine seat rails, and the beautiful cabriole legs. Authentic John Henry Belter Fine Rosewood Laminated Sofa Settee Love Seat. In the Very Desirable and Classic Belter Pattern, “Rosalie with Grapes”. Two Matching Throw Pillows, Not Shown in Photos, Accompany the Sofa. The Back and Side Panels Have Beautifully Tufted Details. The Carvings are Exquisite & Undeniably Belter with Deep Figuring and Curves. No Other Furniture Maker Who Tried (and Many Did) Could Come Close to Copying Belter’s Intricately Thin and Artistic Lines! This Treasure Measures Approximately 41″ High x 75″ Long x 20 Deep. Overall, for its age and use, this is a fine and rare piece. There are a few details that I will point out here and in the photos for accuracy. The upholstery has a tear on the left side panel not visible from the front, but shown in the photos for accuracy. The left front foot has been broken and has an old repair which could EASILY be re-glued more exactly and then paste waxed to look near perfect. I will leave that to the new owner. I have photographed this under EXTREME MAGNIFICATION, however, this old break does not render the settee any less sturdy or detract from its elegance. The back of the settee has a small chip and a small missing piece of laminate as shown in the EXTREMELY MAGNIFIED PHOTOS. This is not visible from the front and could be easily filled in with wood and/or a dark paste wax if you desire. There are some scratches, etc. Here and there commensurate with age and use, but here again, nothing that a little paste wax will not cover beautifully! The “Rosalie” Pattern was so coined by J. To date, this exclusive pattern still occupies the two front parlors or drawing rooms in this historic Greek Revival Natchez landmark. Magnificent John Henry Belter “Rosalie” pattern Victorian Rococo Revival Laminated Rosewood seven piece parlor set consisting of a Sofa and Settee, Arm Chair, and four Side Chairs. All pieces each with finely detailed carvings consisting of arched floral and grape carved crests, serpentine seat rails, shaped and carved arms, cabriole legs and original casters. All pieces have been professionally restored and upholstered in a light blue with gold accent damask. Note: The Rosaliepattern furniture is one of Belters most popular designs.
