De Sede 1972 Leather Sectional Sofa used Modern Modular, Huge, Low Profile

DIMENSIONS:H 29.53 in. X W 185.04 in. X D 110.24 in. H 75 cm x W 470 cm x D 280 cm. SEAT HEIGHT:15.75 in. The model can be converted into a guest bed or daybed in just a few simple steps, without any mechanical assistance. The sofa was made with the best quality leather and finished by hand with high levels of craftsmanship and eye for detail. The brown leather has gotten a wonderful patina and looks amazing. The corner element shows some traces of age cracks (See close up) but still in very firm strong condition. The sofa consists of 7 modules that can be arranged as you desire in a matter of minutes you can create two 2-seat sofas and a single lounge chair or a large straight 5-person sofa, any combination is possible. Each sofa element can be converted into a guest bed or daybed and back to sofa in a matter of seconds a very high quality piece of Swiss design that is most comfortable and most practical. Recently refurbished, including two seat cushions have had the top leather matched and replaced. (repair not done by De Sede) everything else is original. There are scratches and scrapes consistant with age and use. Several house holds within two families with kids and Pets…. Items of similar condition and model are available in Europe only at double my asking price. Will gladly send more images of wear as needed. And no reasonable offer will be refused. This is a very special item that has been much loved. The seating is too low for our aging family. Awesome set of Left and right Double filler with arms and two single fillers. Many different arrangements can be made with this set. Condition is excellent used, There are are a couple of edges that are worn but that with a little attention could be fixed and be unnoticed. There are around 50-100 high definition super-sized pictures at the bottom of this page. This is the model that everyone wants, it is the 100% perfect and correct oversized club model, the arms are easily 100% larger than later and reproduction models, the frame is coil sprung everywhere, arms, back, base, the padding is all horse hair which was the finest wadding of its day, you can tell because it crunches everywhere. The original Chesterfield sofas are pretty much the only chesterfields that are actually comfortable, all others are hard on your lower back, this is sprung as mentioned so offers a wonderful seat. The sofa has been fully restored as you can see, the leather had naturally faded back to the plain colour of the hide, its been hand dyed to this lovely tobacco brown colour by my leather polishers, simply put this sofa is the finest example you will find anywhere today. There are marks on the outside left arm in the form of light scratches, there has been some van diking to the sofa base. Height:- 70.5cm. The base is coil sprung, coil springs are hand tied eight times each, hessian padded supported and strapped, this is the traditional method of making quality sofa bases going back hundreds of years. You usually sit directly on a coil base because its so comfortable but in this instance they have one massive down filled cushions for extra comfort. All the back and side cushions are also down filled, the side cushions can be removed for more of a contemporary look and feel and also adding enough space to easily seat four people. If the back cushions are removed this sofa becomes the size of a large exceptionally comfortable bed. In terms of restoration we have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished it from top to bottom, the leather is thick and soft, its handstitched. The hide used is 100% premium heritage fully aniline leather, this type of leather is untreated and hand dyed after upholstery, the IDEA being a very new sofa looks like a vintage piece from day one. Italian Mod style sofa circa 1970s. Newly reupholstered in white vinyl with Italian crafted chrome globe feet. The sofa measures 8’2″ from armrest to armrest, 42″ depth from the back to the front edge, and 30 high. DETAILS: Like all human made things, there are small imperfections. We have included an image of the right side of the sofa, where the armrest and cushion don’t quite see eye to eye, leaving a small gap which can be resolved with a gorgeous pillow or throw. There is also a small area on the left armrest where someone wrote on the backside of the fabric and can be faintly seen on the visible surface. Please note that all the upholstery is done with care and by hand. Unlike machine upholstered items, it is not perfect and may have character differences and small flaws. We are very picky and will not sell anything that doesn’t pass our approval. We can assure you that any flaws will be very minor. Those which aren’t will be carefully described. If you are a perfectionist, handmade stuff is probably not for you. If you need other photos or angles of the items we sell, just ask. Original Antique Vintage Authentic Harvey Probber Cubo raked sectional sofa in Off white beige. 10 pieces including an ottoman, each roughly 3ft x 3ft. Modular, Reconfigurable, Can be configured in any arrangement. This is a rare collectible mid-century piece. It is in excellent condition. Original fabric, with no stains. No smoking, no pets. No holes or tears. Foam is firm without sag. Could be used as is, this is original fabric, or reupholstered if different look or more modern cleanable fabric is desired. Has zippers on fabric for easy reupholster. Condition is good/ above average. No holes, no tears. Fabric is clean, some light sun fading. Foam in perfect condition. Soft, comfortable, no sag or hardness. The bases are MDF with Walnut veneer. Almost all bases are in excellent condition. On 2 bases there is a veneer missing. This is an easy repair. Probber was an autodidact, having very little formal training at a time when most designers had formal architectural or art degrees. He did, however, take a few night classes at Pratt Institute and had on- the-job training in furniture production while working for Trade Upholstery. After serving in the Coast Guard during the 1940s, Probber worked briefly as a cabaret singer, but by 1945 he had opened Harvey Probber, Inc. Realizing that post-war families wanted more flexibility in their homes and their lifestyles, he was the first to introduce modular seating. His pieces had understated modern lines combined with decorative hardware, rare woods and sumptuous upholstery, sometimes in surprisingly bright colors.
