Attributed with confidence & references to the very fine workshop of J & JW Meeks, NYC, circa 1850′s Presenting an Attractive Victorian Parlor Set in the Stanton Hall pattern by J & JW Meeks. This fine parlor set consist of a well done Settee, 2 fine Arm Chairs, and three attractive Side Chairs. Features include the nicely executed laminated rosewood, the carved crests of flowers, shells, and scroll carvings, the gadrooned crest rails, the reticulated surrounds, the serpentine seat rails, and the beautiful cabriole legs. Like Meeks Stanton Hall pieces can be found in the Reference Book, FURNITURE OF THE 19TH CENTURY by Richard & Eileen Dubrow, pages 99, 100 112, & 118. Antique J&JW Meeks Sofa Settee Stanton Hall Carved Rosewood Excellent Upholstery. Originally it came from the Chet and Liz Matthews estate. I no longer have room for the settee. It dates to the mid 1800′s – around the time of the Civil War. The settee has exceptional upholstery work with button tufted back and button tufted seat finished with a gathered band around the bottom of the seat. The fabric is in pristine condition in a beautiful gold damask material. This settee would be a great addition to any antibellum home in the south or stately mansion in the north. The settee is 63 inches across the widest point of the back. Depth is 33 inches and the height is 48 inches. This settee is in great condition. As previously stated, the upholstery work is extremely well-done! The frame shows only minimal signs of age and use. One back leg has had a chip that has been reglued. The fabric is in excellent condition (no damage, stains or odors). The glue joints are tight. All the upholstery buttons are present. The settee is located 90 miles north of Tulsa Oklahoma and 90 miles west of Joplin Missouri. This would grace any 1850′s era home in Natchez or Vicksburg which is only a day’s drive away from my location! No return after item has been inspected and picked up. We are pleaseed to offer for sale a Beautiful Mahogany Butlers Bench circa 1840. This wonderful settee offers a high back and sides with a gadrooned edge. Acanthus carved columns with scrolled capitals adorn the front on both sides. Claw feet support the bench in front, while turned feet support the back. A drawer just under the seat offers a nice storage area. While not original the lion head pulls are nice cast brass. A fantastic piece for any home or office, this is a hard piece of Empire furniture to find. It is in, I believe, great condition there is some veneer chipping along the edges where the drawer goes in and out which is not uncommon on pieces of this age. The vintage fabric is a very neutral color and is in good condition with no rips or tears, it could use a light cleaning and could also easily be changed to fit your decor. The bench is solid sturdy and ready for another 175 years of enjoyment. Please view and enlarge all photos and see what you think. All pieces are carved in the Stanton Hall pattern, c. They are made of laminated r-wood, and are considered to be in the American rococo revival style. These were among the very best chairs made in this era. As you may notice by the difference in upholstery, this is a combination of two sets. The arm chairs are large, measuring 44″ tall, 28″ wide, and 28 deep. The side chairs each measure 39″ tall, 19″ wide, and 19 deep. The couch/sofa measures 47″ tall, 58″ wide, and 29 deep. Overall, all pieces are in excellent condition. There is very light, wear commensurate with age to the wooden chair frames. There are a few minor restorations, nothing significant or distracting. The upholstery is clean and suitable for use. Overall the chairs are in very fine condition for this age and style. The pieces are sturdy, and ready for immediate use.
