The sofa is 41.5″ tall by 70″ wide by 20″ deep, arm chair 43″ tall by 25″ wide by 23″ deep, the sides are 38″ tall by 19″ wide by17.5 deep. They are located in Rhinebeck, NY 12572. Please note that antiques are not new and may have some bumps and bruises from age and use, this adds to the charm and character and shows it’s history. For sale a beautiful antique deeply and expertly carved walnut recamier att. To john henry belter. The design is of a french nature thus the word recamier. It could be called a sofa or fainting couch. At any rate it has peculiar form and beauty and all the curves are just were they need to be. The carving is expertly done and is 1/2 deep or more in some places. It is very solid and does not wiggle, wobble, or move about at all. It was made circa 1860 if not by belter by another cabinet maker with equal skills and expertise. The fabric is in great condition with no problems to report, it could be cleaned i suppose. It is heavy material with enough nap to fluff abit when rubbed in a different direction. As you can see it is tufted on the back.. It is 71 inches long, 37 tall at the back, and 28 inches deep in the seat. It appears to still rest on the original porcelain casters. A quite rare and unique item. By the way just a side note, it has the belter center carved button on all the defined areas that have carving. After nearly 60 years of collecting one hears a lot of tidbits such as horner eggs, belter button, jellliff buttons etc. This item is in the category “Antiques\Furniture\Sofas & Chaises”. RARE LAMINATED ROSEWOOD JOHN HENRY BELTER ROCOCO REVIVAL SETTEE IN THE SCROLL PATTERN CIRCA 1860′s. The matching pair of Belter meridennes are in a separate listing of mine and yes they would look wonderful with this settee. Size: 65″ wide x 35″ high x 20″ deep at deepest point x 15″ from the floor to the top of seat. This is a fabulous piece of furniture. Very good condition with decent fabric. The rosewood is nicely figured. The scroll design is extremely elegant. There are a few old repairs to the scroll work as showing the most obvious repair. This is not unusual on a 160 year old piece. Notice the fine detail. Very comfortable and fitting to the body. Belter was the best of his “period”. This type of furniture was seen in the most exclusive parlor room in the home. 19TH C VICTORIAN ROSEWOOD “ROSALIE” (JOHN HENRY BELTER) STYLE COUCH / SOFA. I attribute to Belter but others may not. Condition is excellent “Used”… This is the finest piece of Victorian furniture you’ll find. Beutifully hand carved rosewood frame. The frame was acquired at a fine antique dealer in Omaha, NE in the early 1990s and professionally restored in Omaha by a true craftsman using period materials (springs, horsehair, strapping)… The stunning light blue “materiale broccato” was obtained during a trip to Florance, Italy. The button tufting is a pure work of art… Skills developed over a long career as a very specialized upholsterer. Great piece in all original condition… Seat is firm, frame is solid and upholstery is like new… No stains, smoke free home. A fine settee attributed to John Henry Belter, NY with several layers (at least 7) of exotic rosewood to make this a special piece of Victorian furniture. The cushion is about 20″ deep and the height from the floor to the cushion is 15″. The springs need to be tighten and the lining has been torn off from underneath as shown. Small repair to one front foot. The patina is good with some surface wear. The fabric is old, but is from the 20th c. And not of the period. We do have a loading dock and ramp for trucks.
