George Smith Chelsea make some of the finest hand made in England sofas based on traditional English designs. The sofa is made from beech wood and has a Victorian style coil sprung base and overstuffed feather filled cushions, they recess under the back rest inside the frame of the sofa so you are never sitting on the back edge meaning they don’t sink, the back rest is padded for a comfortable seat. The sofa has been fully and professionally upholstery cleaned from top to bottom. The cushions are fully upholstered on both sides, the underside of the left cushion has a mark, its the underside so facing into the seat base and not seen, otherwise to my eyes the upholstery looks lovely, there may be the odd little mark here or there but you would have to look very very close to see them. Wimbledon-Furniture is delighted to offer for sale this lovely custom made newly reupholstered George Smith Signature arm sofa with William Morris Forest Linen Upholstery. A sofa made by one of the greatest designer brand sofa makers of our generation George Smith, the most successful and iconic signature arm model which is based on the world famous Howard and Sons armchair, and one the most beautiful and decorative upholsterys ever produced the Forest Linen which is based on William Morriss original tapestry dated 1887 and currently on display at the V&A Victoria and Albert Museum. What more can I say! As mentioned its been fully and newly reupholstered, the work is exquisite and I had a lot of input to make sure the pattern repeat was exactly what I wanted, so when you look at the front of the sofa and you see the wolf and peacock on to the top of the cushion it flows perfectly to the front of the cushion and then down to the sofa base. Both cushions are fully upholstered so if the worst happened and you stained one side you can simply flip them over. They are overstuffed with goose feathers. A unique feature of the very best George Smith and Howard & Sons sofas is the cushions recess inside the frame under the back rest, this means you are never sitting on the back edge of the cushion which tends to shrink, you are sitting a few inches in with more support. The vintage sofas have original upholstery. The functional sofa set includes two walnut drawer end tables and two Formica end tables. Original paper label included. Signed Herman Miller to interior drawer. Good condition with age appropriate wear. Several spots to original vintage fabric, re-upholstery recommended.
