TUTHILL KING PARLOR SET. We are very proud to be able to present a Very Rare Opportunity to own a John Henry Belter Tuthill King Parlor Set, NYC, circa 1850′s. This set is profusely carved featuring Rose Buds, Daisy’s, other flower buds, grape clusters, leaves, vines and one of my favorites “capped acorns”. We are presenting this set in Fine original finish condition; all crisp carvings are in tack and later upholstery. You pick out a favorite material and we will attempt to assist you! Note: References to the Tuthill King pattern can be found on Page 101 & 105 of the Reference Book, American furniture of the 19th Century by Richard and Eileen Dubrow. Attributed to J H Belter with references. Presenting a Very Rare Pair of John Henry Belter tuthill King Pattern Victorian Rococo Opposing Pair of Laminated Rosewood Meridiennes in Museum Quality and Condition, circa 1850′s. Features include Belter’s finest styles in complexity and design. A born together opposing pair of Belter Meridiennes with Exuberant Carvings, Laminations, and pierced ornamenations. They are amazing and in perfectly reconditioned condition. The laminations are tight. The pierced carved back seat rail, the ornately carved serpentine seat, and the fine carvings flowing down the arm and leg ending in scroll feet are all Belter’s finest attributes. The Belter Tuthill King pattern takes its name from the Parlor Suite in the Tuthill King family home on South MIchigan Ave. Chicago, Illinois which according to family lore was saved from the Great Chicago Fire and is now conserved by the Chicago Historical Society. Reference: Pair of Belter “Tuthill King” Meridiennes illustrated in American Furniture of the 19th Century by Eileen & Richard Dubrow, page 115. Presented in remarkably professionally reconditioned condition, minor very small pieces of the top layer of laminations were missing and have been professionally replaced without detection!! The pair of Meridienns are now presented in beautiful deep red tone on tone damask tufted upholstery material. They are now raise on later casters.
