French 2nd Empire Chaise Longue and Ottoman. Maker unknown; circa 1850. Chaise longue approximately 58″ x 28″ x 40 3/4 h. Ottoman approximately 20″ dia x 19″ h. Offered is a 19th century chaise longue in the Louis XVI style featuring a carved polychrome solid wood frame. It is covered in a recent (1980ish) tapestry style fabric and has a loose single seat cushion. There are very few significant condition issues – mostly scuffs, nicks and scratches to the painted surfaces, to be expected of a piece of its vintage. The frame is extremely solid and sturdy. I will be happy to provide additional photos at your request. The description above is consistent with that of a Certified Appraiser in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who examined the piece in 1987.
