Over the next 45 years, the collection evolved into an innovative product mix of modern European and American furniture, and Workbench grew into a 50-store chain. I bought this sofa and loveseat in 1977 at Crown Center in Kansas City, Missouri. I have loved it all of these years for its beauty and simplicity. I apologize for the ugly striped fabric that was put on it in 1990. In a hurry to decorate a room and violated Mr. I admire the quality solid oak frame construction and the ingenious design of the wedge-lock. The furniture is stackable when disassembled and it can be put together and taken apart with no tools. It is perfect for getting up narrow staircases. The is a 80″ sofa with a 15″ seat height and the seat depth is 27. The loveseat length is 55. This item is in the category “Antiques\Furniture\Sofas & Chaises”. This piece is part of a suite, I have the matching daybed listed under my other items. A very rare well made and decorative pair of chairs, turkey work is a form of knotted embroidery practiced in England from the 16th century to the mid-18th century, but especially in the 17th century. Used for upholstery and table covers, it was worked in imitation of Turkish carpets, which are known from paintings to have been imported to England from the 16th century. The designs were usually of geometrically stylized flowers. A document from the reign of William III (16891702) gives the number of Turkey-work chairs made per annum as 60,000. Because so few examples have survived in England, while examples have been found abroad for example, in Italy it may be deduced that Turkey work was an export item. As you can see the upholstery is period and distressed, it can be restored as there is no missing fabric just straight line splits and wear areas, I have a pair of cushions which can be used for donor fabric if needed. One armchair is mostly stable and solid and will need limited frame work, the other chair needs the springs webbing on the base, a very simple job, the frame will need to be secured as it has play. The model of the seat itself is absolutely sublime, it is very very rare to find a pair of armchairs from this period and of these dimensions as well. If the upholsterys wasnt so rare I would strip it all off and upholster them in leather then have them hand dyed, you would then have an epic pair of chairs. Width:- 178.5cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses SW19-3BE, we can have it delivered nationwide to include Scotland Wales and Ireland. Wimbledon-Furniture is a privately owned family ran business out of Wimbledon SW19, we have four large storage warehouses, if you have any questions my number is under the business sellers information, please feel free to call or text. Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade. COURIER (LARGE ITEMS ONLY THAT CANT BE POSTED).
