RARE LAMINATED ROSEWOOD JOHN HENRY BELTER ROCOCO REVIVAL SETTEE IN THE SCROLL PATTERN CIRCA 1860′s. The matching pair of Belter meridennes are in a separate listing of mine and yes they would look wonderful with this settee. Size: 65″ wide x 35″ high x 20″ deep at deepest point x 15″ from the floor to the top of seat. This is a fabulous piece of furniture. Very good condition with decent fabric. The rosewood is nicely figured. The scroll design is extremely elegant. There are a few old repairs to the scroll work as showing the most obvious repair. This is not unusual on a 160 year old piece. Notice the fine detail. Very comfortable and fitting to the body. Belter was the best of his “period”. This type of furniture was seen in the most exclusive parlor room in the home. FINE & RARE ROCOCO VICTORIAN ANTIQUE JOHN HENRY BELTER LAMINATED ROSEWOOD SETTEE_circa 1860′s.. The size: 68″ long by 39″ high by 30 deep. LOSING HERE IS YOUR GAIN! A fine settee attributed to John Henry Belter, NY with several layers (at least 7) of exotic rosewood to make this a special piece of Victorian furniture. The cushion is about 20″ deep and the height from the floor to the cushion is 15″. The springs need to be tighten and the lining has been torn off from underneath as shown. Small repair to one front foot. The patina is good with some surface wear. The fabric is old, but is from the 20th c. And not of the period. We do have a loading dock and ramp for trucks. Authentic John Henry Belter Fine Rosewood Laminated Sofa Settee Love Seat. In the Very Desirable and Classic Belter Pattern, “Rosalie with Grapes”. Two Matching Throw Pillows, Not Shown in Photos, Accompany the Sofa. The Back and Side Panels Have Beautifully Tufted Details. The Carvings are Exquisite & Undeniably Belter with Deep Figuring and Curves. No Other Furniture Maker Who Tried (and Many Did) Could Come Close to Copying Belter’s Intricately Thin and Artistic Lines! This Treasure Measures Approximately 41″ High x 75″ Long x 20 Deep. Overall, for its age and use, this is a fine and rare piece. There are a few details that I will point out here and in the photos for accuracy. The upholstery has a tear on the left side panel not visible from the front, but shown in the photos for accuracy. The left front foot has been broken and has an old repair which could EASILY be re-glued more exactly and then paste waxed to look near perfect. I will leave that to the new owner. I have photographed this under EXTREME MAGNIFICATION, however, this old break does not render the settee any less sturdy or detract from its elegance. The back of the settee has a small chip and a small missing piece of laminate as shown in the EXTREMELY MAGNIFIED PHOTOS. This is not visible from the front and could be easily filled in with wood and/or a dark paste wax if you desire. There are some scratches, etc. Here and there commensurate with age and use, but here again, nothing that a little paste wax will not cover beautifully! The “Rosalie” Pattern was so coined by J. To date, this exclusive pattern still occupies the two front parlors or drawing rooms in this historic Greek Revival Natchez landmark. What sets this apart from the norm of the era is the simplicity of the design. John Henry Belter is known for his ornate fruit and flower carving on his furniture, but this design, which is linear and finely detailed, is so well suited to complimenting today’s architecture and post-modern style. It can be mixed with almost any newer vintage of furniture and blend while maintaining its gorgeous antique qualities. The sofa, armchair and 2 of the 4 salon chairs are on castors and really roll smoothly.
