Rare Neo-classical Child’s Carved Mahogany Clawfoot Settee With Footstool

This example with barrel crest rail with scrolled ears and foliate rosettes above an upholstered back panel joined to outscrolled arms with leaf carved supports terminating in floral carved pediment centering the over upholstered seat front. The settee is covered in a pale lemon green damask with rows of delicate cornflower yellow floral designs. The settee is raised on outswept foliate carved winged paw feet beneath the flame mahogany seat rail; the whole raised on casters. The small mahogany footstool with matching upholstery, has barrel form sides joined to the simple rectangular frame. The stool is raised on boldly turned swelled feet. We bought this ca 1863 fainting couch in Chicago in 1973 and it’s been with us ever since. We were told when we bought it to never recover it since this was the original fabric when it was made. It sure looks it. Overall in really great shape considering it’s 159 years old. As you can see in one of the pictures, there are two small tears on the lower right side of the chaise.
