Vintage Velvet Cabriolet Arm Chesterfield Sofa. Absolutely charming, Demi-lune sofa, with gently sloped, wrap-around arms, button-tufted seat back & bottom cushions, and a uniquely detailed, gathered and pleated back spine and lower front panel. Its frame is well constructed from Maple wood, and well bolstered with a combination of latex foam, cotton batting and metal sofa springs, and finished with brass orbit caster wheels in front and solid wood peg feet at rear. Judging from its construction(heart wood) and materials(square slotted screws), and as there are no tags or stamp, I can say, with some certainty, that it was a mid-level American made sofa, that splurged on upholstery detailing, produced sometime between the late 1960s to mid 70s. 9/10; Vintage/Restored; Entire sofa has been dusted, vacuumed and its upholstery steam cleaned. On the underside I cross-tied the metal springs, installed extension springs at the sides, and placed a 2nd layer of high density foam, to prevent sag, before replacing the bottom cover. On the whole, this sofa is not at all stiff or formal in its softness, with medium plush give, and the short nap velvet has a balanced feel of soft & stiff. I took off -1 for one area where the velvet is worn, but only where deeply creased, and only along crease lines, and a pencil eraser size spot where velvet was missing. Ive filled this in, with good results, but with close inspection, and in direct light, it can still be seen. 96 x 38 x 28. Seating area -75 x 24 x 15. Arm height – 23-25.
