Antique English William IV Carved Mahogany Upholstered Chaise Longue (Circa 1835). Here is a superb quality antique English William IV carved mahogany chaise longue, circa 1835, which has been newly upholstered, in good condition. Attractive upswept left-hand arm. Pale gold & cream chenille floral upholstery. Original horsehair swab cushion. Sweeping shaped upholstered backrest. Carved shaped back rail and & arm. Stunning carved cabriole legs. Original polish & patination. The chaise features (when facing) a left-hand raised sweeping upholstered arm. The carved moulded back frame, which is also upholstered, sweeps down and terminates on the base of the swab cushion, with a ruched and piped bolster cushion. The chaise boasts a sweeping carved fascia to the front of the arm, with a moulding to the rest of the frieze. The arm and backrest are solid in joint. The chaise has been newly upholstered in top quality pale gold & cream colour chenille floral upholstery, interspersed with floral silk embroidery and finished with matching piping. The swab cushion retains its original horsehair filing; it is therefore heavy, firm and very good quality. The swab cushion has been finished with quality deep buttoning. The underside of the chaise has been traditionally upholstered in hessian backing material. The chaise stands on stunning quality carved cabriole legs. This chaise features a rich dark red brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished. This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the living room or bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. External height = 93cm or 36 or 3ft 0. External width = 190cm or 74¾ or 6ft 2¾. External depth = 63.5cm or 25 or 2ft 1. Seat height = 47cm or 18½ or 1ft 6½. Seat width = 154cm or 60 or 5ft 0. Seat depth = 53cm or 20 or 1ft 8. Arm Height = 84.5cm or 33¼ or 2ft 9¼. Back Height (with cushion on) = 45cm or 17¾ or 1ft 5¾. Back Height (with cushion off) = 52cm or 20½ or 1ft 8½. The chaise longue frame is in very good condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no missing carvings or mouldings to the frame. Therefore, the upholstery is in excellent and clean condition. The chaise stands on its original solid mahogany legs. The chaise longue is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
