The Paris Exposition of 1900 introduced furniture styles reflecting what was happening in the rest of the design world, such as jewellery and silver. This style of furniture was not warmly embraced, as the sweeping lines were not very conducive to mass production. The French however, held it in higher esteem. Legs tend to be sweeping or cabriole. This couch is in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Herefore the upholstery is new and in excellent condition (its clean with no signs of wear and tear or damage). The seat is firmly sprung, but at the same time, is extremely comfortable. The underside is upholstered in traditional hessian. As the couch boasts the original polish it has a fantastic colour and patination. This colour can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The back and arms are also in good condition with no loose joints, and no missing carvings. This couch is well constructed, solid in joint and is ready to use. External Height = 90.5cm or 35 or 2ft 11. External Width = 143cm or 56¼ or 4ft 8¼. External Depth = 65cm or 25 or 2ft 1.
