FRENCH LOUIS XV STYLE GILDED CHAISE LONGUE. Early 19th Century w/ Pegged Construction Item # 503HPB22Z. This large and unique chaise longue was probably crafted during the first quarter of the 19th Century, the shapely design contrasting the angularity of the seat against an almost unending undulation in the frame. The curvy form is emphasized by the lack of unnecessary embellishment or carving throughout the surface, instead allowing the warm burnished gilding to bring out the soft nature of the design. Built to last the test of time, the chaise is constructed with pegged tenon-mortise joints, these left exposed on most legs and major joints. The chaise rests over scrolled French toes. Once you have had it covered, this rare piece will certainly be a cherished part of your decor – it is comfortable, sturdy and a very fine presentation. 37″ D x approximately 82″ L x 40 3/4″ H; 19″ H to seat. Condition Report: Upholstery in poor condition. Old repaired crack to back leg, several leg joints repaired over the years with some joint separations. Traces of inpainting, the majority of the surface original burnished gilding. Wear along frame and legs as expected. One foot missing half of the toe.
