We are pleased to be offering today this French carved Victorian style sofa that is very comfortable and dates from the 1940s era. It is in beautiful condition. It has buttoned and pleated upholstery. It is in a cranberry/wine fabric and a down filled cushion that you can just sink into for comfort, and it is encased in a brown walnut frame. The overall size is 85 inches wide across the two wings, 64 inches wide on the cushion, 24 inches deep on the cushion, 22 inches high to the cushion, 25 inches high to the arm, 36 inches high to the lower back and 39 inches high on the higher part of the back. This gives you the looks of a Victorian sofa that has been modernized for comfort. The frame is lovely with four pad foot legs and carvings around.

A very good looking well made and comfortable chaise, the upholstery is very sophisticated and looks expensive and elegant in any setting, the frame is a mixture of oak and beech wood, the legs are beautifully turned and finished with brass castors. Condition wise, the whole piece looks pretty much perfect, I found one small mark on the underside of the cushion, otherwise it doesnt really look like its ever been use. The velvet has that wonderful effect of stroking it one way and its lighter or the other and its slightly darker. Height:- 86.5cm. Seat height:- 61cm. If you like quality seating then this is just about as fine as you will find anywhere. The base is coil sprung, coil springs are hand-tied eight times each, hessian padded supported and strapped, this is the traditional method of making quality sofa bases going back hundreds of years. You usually sit directly on a coil base because its so comfortable but in this instance, they have added a pair of over stuffed feather filled cushions for extra comfort, the back is lightly feather filled so you sink more than the seat, it is very very comfortable. In terms of restoration, the whole sofa has been stripped back then hand dyed this deep rich cigar brown colour, it has an amazing gentleman’s club look to it. The hide used is 100% premium heritage fully aniline leather, this type of leather is untreated and hand dyed after upholstery, the idea being a very new sofa looks like a vintage piece from day one. The leather is designed to mark so as to add to the vintage look charm and feel. Height:- 87.5cm, seat height 43cm. Depth:- 110cm frame only plus 2cm for the cushion overhang. A period Empire rosewood daybed with beautiful carved details. It was adapted into a functional sofa with a closely matched carved back rail, with the option of using it or not. It retains it’s original highly polished finish. The drop in seat and back cushions are covered in tapestry fabric in good condition. The back cushion folds out to fit on top of the seat to create a thick, comfortable bed. It measures 79 inches wide, 33 1/2 inches deep and 33 1/2 inches high. With the optional back rail installed, the height of the center crest is 42 1/2 inches. The entire piece is easily dismantled for transport.
