We bought this ca 1863 fainting couch in Chicago in 1973 and it’s been with us ever since. We were told when we bought it to never recover it since this was the original fabric when it was made. It sure looks it. Overall in really great shape considering it’s 159 years old. As you can see in one of the pictures, there are two small tears on the lower right side of the chaise. We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful solid mahogany Victorian rose carved sofa that dates from the civil war era of 1870s to 1880s. I dont like to use the word immaculate, but it is in as nice of condition as I have ever seen. It has a beautiful antique peach color fabric that is buttoned and pleated and in nice condition. The frame is in a brown walnut color. Sometimes it is hard to tell if it is black walnut or brown mahogany, but it is certainly all there with no breaks or damages that I can see. The overall size is 64 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 44 inches high to the carved crest, 24 inches high to the arm and 18 inches high to the seat. Empire Civil War Era Sofa Antique Flamed Mahogany in Beautiful Burnt Reddish Brown Color Dyed Top Grain Cowhide Leather. Empire classical antique survivor from the Civil War Era. Approximately 85 inches in length x 28 inches depth x 43 inches height from the pinnacle finale to the floor. Re-upholstered in top grain leather dyed a burnt reddish brown color. Features beautiful flamed mahogany wood. The pediment crown or finale is about 1 inch in thickness and appears to be one-piece, but is pegged and can be carefully removed if desired (we have never done so as it’s unusual to still be intact). Has a wonderful patina on wood. (It is very heavy). NOTE – We do have the railway in Needles, Calif. Not too far away from Bullhead City. All you would have to do is arrange for transport to the railroad station – we will assist you as much as we can – but please note we have no truck for transport.
