Antique American Victorian era fainting couch or sofa. Body of piece is constructed of solid wood (Oak), with hand carvings- the feet are all clawfoot in design, with some cool embellishments on each corner. An early and unique reclining chair, nicknamed the “Sleepy Hollow” chair. When fully reclined it forms a nice and comfy curved hollow. The chair is solid walnut, with burled walnut embellishments. The footrest pulls out from under the seat, and is upholstered on the top side, walnut on the reverse side. The stretchers are turned, the hardware is original. The seat back has a grooved iron support screwed to the back, where the v-shaped walnut and iron support rod fits when it reclines at different angles. There are two original hinges that attach the back and lower seat. These are under the upholstery and are not seen. There are a couple of old repairs to the wood which are solid and not noticeable, but must be mentioned, one under the left arm, and one under the seat frame. The chair has been re-glued and the finish has been polished. The floral tapestry upholstery is approximately 30 years old. It is in tones of peach, cream, pink and soft blue, with leaf green gimp trim. It is in good condition, slightly faded, but pretty. The “Sleepy Hollow” reclining chair is 38 1/2″ tall, 25″ wide, 38″ long when closed, and 65″ long when fully reclined. This unusual and cozy “Sleepy Hollow” chair will be a conversation starter in any setting, and is great for catching a nap, too! In case the idea of a set of two of these cozy chairs in front of the fireplace sounds great to you, we have a matching sleepy hollow chair that we have not listed, or pictured. It is exactly the same as this chair, but with faded cream and blue flowered upholstery. If you are interested, we will be happy to add pictures and a special price for two of these unique chairs together. Gorgeous antique Eastlake Victorian fainting couch in solid walnut, circa 1880′s! Nicely done velvet upholstery (professional) with button tufting in a rich camel rose/pink color with matching gimp. Incised Eastlake spoon-carved details with raised walnut floral medallion. Measures approximately 74″ in overall length; 36 1/2″ height to the top of the crest; About 24 1/2 depth from the wall. Seat height is about 17″ with a seat depth of about 21 1/2″. Age related wear & tear (minor scuffs & dings) with original antique finish to the walnut frame. Upholstery appears to be newer (see pics) with only very minor wear, mostly along the front edge of the seat. Still has it’s original casters but 2 (left side) are missing the porcelain wheels. Overall, this fainting couch is in very nice condition and has been very well taken care of for the past 130+ years! It’s an excellent example of the Eastlake style and is ready to use. Beautifully Crafted Antique Empire Couch, In good condition, Mahogany Carved claw feet and back feet with glass coasters, some minor stains, piping on bottom missing and spring coming out the bottom, minor tear in the corner.
