Antiques Sofas

There are around 50-100 high definition super-sized pictures at the bottom of this page. The sofa is stamped on the inside back left leg 557 5 which will be an order number, the only company I know that stamped here was Howard & Son’s but the castors aren’t stamped. I have a matching pair of claw and ball feet wingback armchairs listed under my other items. This sofa is the all singing all dancing super comfortable original Victorian, it has the fully sprung front edge which is very rare, the front edge is the beam of wood that usually sits below the cushions where the end of your thigh rests before the knee, on this sofa its sprung so it compresses as you sit down, its rare and very very comfortable. The entire seat platform is of course coil sprung, each spring is hand dyed eight ways, hessian padded and supported. The cushions are deep dense feather filled and very heavy. The sofa was fully restored a few years ago, they removed the old upholstery and reupholstered it with the heritage leather hide, it is fully aniline which means it shows the natural patina of the skin. The sofas will only look like this for a few weeks, they are due for recolouring which means they will be hand dyed a lovely whisky brown colour. Depth:- 91cm with the back to the wall to the front panel, 98cm to the front of the cushion.
