EXCEPTIONAL ART NOUVEAU SCULPTED GILTWOOD CANAPE. Circa first quarter of the 20th Century Item # 510LQM19. A perfectly designed and proportioned Art Nouveau canapé executed in beechwood with brilliant gilt surfaces, it exhibits precise and gorgeous craftsmanship with a remarkably heavy frame. The design is loosely inspired by the curvy nature of the Rococo forms of the Louis XV era, but has an elegant and unique movement that shows the vision of a very talented designer. The curved crest rail of the canapé is broad with gentle carved molding over straight arms supports that immediately and seamlessly join the frame over the gentle cabriolet of the front legs. Simple and relatively austere, the naturalistic form is pure and rich. For the interior designer and anyone passionate about the Art Nouveau movement, this is a very tasteful and perfectly designed canapé that walks a fine balance between art and function. 27 1/2″ D x 55 1/4″ W (at toes) x 30″ H x approximately 18 1/2″ H to seat. Condition Report: Upholstery should be changed (dirty/stained). Wear to gilded surfaces. Very sturdy, strong and heavy. Please review all images in the slideshow for a full overview of condition.
