Original MICHAEL GRAVES Settee for Sunar Hausman c. Original Michael Graves Settee for Sunar Hausman, circa 1981. We feature a growing selection of Oriental, Chinese and Ethnic antiques. FREE PICK-UP IN THE CHICAGOLAND AREA. Up for your consideration is a fine Michael Graves for Sunar Hauserman settee, having blue upholstered backs and seats over maple burl and lacquered wood. This is the original issue of this piece, in conjunction with his famous pair of matching chairs, made specifically for Graves in 1981. Perhaps 100 chairs were made in total, with an example on display at the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Brooklyn Museum, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art (Grave’s home town). This is only one of two settees I have seen. Michael Graves, the father of American Postmodernism and the man who created the touchstone of the bold, symbolic, classical architecture of the 80s and some of the most iconic design pieces of that era. His impact on the world of architecture has been immense. Since founding his firm in 1964 in Princeton, Graves transformed the role of architects and designers, and even the place of design in our everyday lives. This is a rare example of a piece of furniture he designed later in his career, his goal was to make a stylish chair that could accommodate his aging body, the the easy chair. This is the matching settee too the chair, one of only a few that were made. The settee is 29.5″ tall x 50″ wide x and 30 deep. It is made with the finest craftsmanship, and are in excellent condition, showing only light wear throughout. Actually, it appears to never have been used. The upholstery is clean, odor-free, and free of rips, snags, etc. The woodwork is in equally excellent condition, free of damage or restorations. This quote is for the Continental U.
