Strong Rococo Revival Lines such as heavy naturalist carvings and c curves throughout. It is made up of solid dark walnut and appears to have the original finish. The sofa has wonderful carved cabriol legs and a great carved motif on the front along with its original castor wheels.. Regardless of the maker, who ever made this was a fine cabinetmaker back in the day – not just some average cabinetmaker. Notice the depth of the carvings on the frame : – What quality!! The upholstery may actually be the original with green velvet filled with either horsehair or straw cushing. It is in real good shape considering its antique age with just a few blemishes as to be expected with antique fabrics. The sofa is very sturdy and needs no repairs on the frame that i know of. The springs on the right hand side of the sofa could be tightened up but this could be done and still keep the antique upholstery intact. Dimensions are width – 72 inches, depth -30 inches, height [to top of the crest] -34.5 inches.. The seat is 19 inches wide and is 16 inches off the floor. This has been in a home for over 40 years at least and has not been in the market for some time. A John belter or J. Meeks sofa typically sells for several thousands of dollars but here is an opportunity to have a Belter type sofa complete with fantastic period carvings for a fraction of the price! – I ALMOST HATE TO SELL IT!
