FRENCH LOUIS XV STYLE GREEN PAINTED SETTEE. Circa late 19th century Item # 611UPZ05P. An excellent settee from the mid-to-late 19th century in the Louis XV taste, it is crafted with precision using tenon-mortise joints locked together with pins that are just barely visible under the surface with hairline cracking where the pin naturally shrinks and contracts over time. The comfortable webbed seat is upholstered over the rail and is flanked on either side by open arms, these raised over curling arm supports that twist into the side of the apron. The crest rail, apron and knees are beautifully carved with floral relief, the inner and outer edges of the frame carefully highlighted in a burnished gilt paint. The cabriole legs terminate in gentle scrolls over tapered stump toes. This was originally a much larger suite that has been separated out, but the other pieces may still be available in our collection if you browse our full inventory – they include two pairs of arm chairs and two pairs of side chairs. 41 1/4″ H x 79″ W x 25″ D x 15 1/2″ H to seat. Condition Report: Later green and gilt painted surface, heavily worn, particularly around the feet; paint can be somewhat flaky to the touch in some areas. Cracks and gesso loss, settee being very sturdy and comfortable. Upholstery in overall good condition with some stains, minor discolorations and loose threads. Please scroll down and view all images of this piece for a full overview of condition. Conveniently located close to the turnpike, the building is just 7 miles off of Route 76s Blue Mountain exit. At the junction of Weaver Rd. And Roxbury Rd at 5704 Roxbury Rd. Shippensburg, PA 17257 – when you pull in, just look for our sign on the building at the far right. Because we market our collection primarily online, the building is set up for perfect humidity and temperature controls, free of almost all sunlight exposure or excessive dust. Over the past few years, the fine arts and antiques business has shifted much of the sale process for finer works to the internet. While this might seem risky for a new client, in our experience we’ve found that a carefully catalogued and clearly photographed presentation of all angles on an item is a more accurate and less distracting way to evaluate a piece than to visit it in person. Because lighting is clear and awkward angles are made comfortable, differences in oxidization become noteworthy and close ups bring out the handcrafted nature of objects. It is difficult to turn a tall chest upside down in a cramped antique store to examine for alteration, repairs and replacements but it is imperative to do so prior to purchasing! In 2013 we began including high-resolution UV photography with all newly acquired paintings, allowing you to see clearly the history of the surface: repairs, light touch ups, age of the varnish layer and loss. We have worked hard to ensure each object is catalogued thoroughly in advance so you can completely inspect what you are interested in from the comfort of your home. We offer layaway on a case by case basis with 20% down and equal payments monthly until the item is paid off. Buyers are responsible for unpacking, moving the item into their home and disposing of all packing materials without assistance from the driver. For a quote from Plycon. IN THE EVENT OF DAMAGE.
